The Primary Teachers Education College (PTEC), Gurwa, Sitagarha, Hazaribagh, is a Jesuit Christian minority institution, established by Hazaribagh Jesuit Educational Society (HJES) in 1958. The governing body of the college strives to carry forward the rich traditions and legacy of long-standing Jesuit education even to this day, and this institution is a continuation of that tradition.
The Primary Teachers Education College is affiliated to Jharkhand Academic Council, Ranchi, and recognized by Eastern Regional Council, National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE), Bhubaneswar, (ERC, NCTE vide order No. BR-E/E- 2/96/2799(12) dt. 11.02.1997).
At present, the college runs a two-years diploma course to prepare teachers for primary schools in Jharkhand. The institution has a permission to admit two-units (50 students in each unit) of candidates every year.
